Hot Tubs and Spas: Two Terms that Mean the Same
Although these two terms are now being used interchangeably, they initially
referred to different things. "Spa" is the name of a city in Belgium known for
its soothing thermal baths, while the term "hot tub" was largely used in America
to mean old wine barrels or huge vats filled with warm water in which people
spent hours soaking their tired bodies while sitting on wooden benches.
Hot tubs were traditionally constructed from wood, and the preferred
materials were redwood, cedar and pine. Spa tubs, on the other hand, are made of
acrylic plastics and are used not just for soaking, but also for hydrotherapy.
Spa tubs have powerful built-in water jets that effectively agitate the water
and ejected powerful streams that targeted particular body points.
Various spa designs
Today's hot tubs are manufactured using durable acrylic equipped with
powerful massage jets and other features designed for total comfort and
relaxation. Hot tubs are relatively easy to maintain and are made of
high-quality materials engineered to last a long time. The modern designs can
have up to 160 jets with powerful streams, pulses, waves and swirls. The more
high-end hot tub models have features that enable each user to individually
adjust his own settings.
The spa's bubbling system provides total relaxation and relieves daily stress.
The motors are engineered to produce minimum noise, and these spas are equipped
with state-of-the-art heating systems. They also have very efficient air
cleaning technology. Even the filtration systems are so effective that even
circulated water comes out crystal clear.
Spas that are made from acrylic sheets come in a variety of shapes. Aside
from the regular square or oval tubs, hot tubs now have curves and undulations
that conform to the natural contours of the body. They come in various designer
colors and are guaranteed not to fade, chip or crack with normal use.
Designing your spa room
For the ultimate in luxury, spend adequate time in planning the layout and
design of your spa room, as you are bound to spend lots of hours in it. Turn it
into your glamour room, if you will. Create a relaxing ambiance by placing
candles on strategic areas in the room. You can opt for scented candles for
aromatherapy. Place marbles or rocks on the area where you'll rest your feet;
roll your soles and heels over the stones to relax them. Hang inspirational
paintings or photographs on the walls. Scent your bathwater with rose oil or
scatter rose petals on your bathwater. Prepare soothing music which you could
listen to while soaking in the tub. The possibilities are only limited by your
imagination.
